William H. Barney, 1861

William H. Barney had come to Albion in 1904 from Wisconsin, where he was employed as a sawyer in lumber mills. He was born near Syracuse, NY , on January 17, 1861, and came to Michigan as a boy with his parents, residing in Kent County. Thelumbering industry was at its peak, and William learned the trade at various levels. Barney was at one time the president of the Michigan Lumber Dealers Association. He retired from the Albion Lumber Company on September 1, 1936, because of failing health, and sold his controlling stock to Emmett C. Godfrey. Barney died January 29, 1937.
