Hough Field, 1962
In the fall of 1962, the Commonwealth celebrated another addition to its sports facilities.On a Saturday afternoon in September, the Hough Memorial Field received its formal dedication. This addition put to use a vacant area eastof the Knights Templar Hall which formerly had lain idle. The opening ceremony featured a flag presentation by a Marine color guard and a marching drill by Starr Scout Troop 47 to the cadence of the Albion High School band underKarl Abel. At halftime of the six-man football game between the St. Charles School of Coldwater and the Starr Redbirds, former athletic director Jerry Sacharski reminisced with the boys about football at the school when he was a coach twenty years earlier. “I still have a scrapbook of my years at Starr,” he said, “and I hear from some of the fellows on my teams every once in a while.”
